Dinner for Two – Disguise for a kind of a Surprise Party

Saturday, 20. October 2012

We were heading for a birthday dinner at Wombles, table reserved at 7:30 pm. When the clock draw nearer six, Monique said: “I want to go, now!”

There is no way the drive would take 90 minutes or more! What can I do but convince for a glass of champagne on the Sandton Southern Sun Terrace, about two third of the way.
So we arrived at Wombles just before 8 pm, and I directly followed the waiter to our table to cover the scene. Nevertheless I heard from behind “Ups, there is Mike!”

Indeed, but it was not just Mike.

Diamonds are a Girls Best Friends

Saturday, 20. October 2012

… but these days I am not in a position to buy a diamond for my girl.

As if the heaven knew it was sending thousands of diamonds to her birthday. Unfortunately they had undergone a metamorphosis ’til they arrived.

Look at the size a good 30 minutes after touching the ground. Would have made a bling ring.

Otherwise quite some destruction, half of the leaves of the trees. But the dogs were exited about the change of the environment.

With the difference of the leaf-covered patio and the pool barely to be recognised, they stepped into the water a couple of times while their wild play.

We were not so happy with the storm’s outcome. Whereby the chairs thrown around didn’t really matter. But just the first level of pool clean-up took a couple of hours. Some of the stuff outside , like one of the dog’s water bowls didn’t resist the heavenly forces; likewise the backyard light and four window panes.

Happy Birthday

Saturday, 20. October 2012

As a kid Monique was confronted with a huge injustice: Her sisters always got a strawberry cake for their birthdays, while her birthday was out of strawberry season.
How do you cope with such an experience?   –  You start to dislike strawberries.

Now we are living in the Southern hemisphere, so at Monique’s birthday there is strawberry season. Hence a chance to overcome this childhood drama. So I did prepare a strawberry cake. A lazy one, since interesting enough Checkers offers these days German flan case. To overcome the learned strawberry dislike I did combine them with peaches halves. Still there was a challenge: I couldn’t find glaze anywhere. I used Strawberry jelly instead, but this did remain very liquid even after a good hour in the fridge. I put it in the freezer – just for a couple of minutes – and forgot. When I looked after it, it was already almost stiff. You see the result.

Well close your eyes, since taste was not too bad, actually pretty good. But shame, I didn’t buy whip cream.
