A huge step into the future

Today Monique received the confirmation of her membership to FGASA (Field Guide Association of Southern Africa). And with this she did enrole for a FGASA Level 1 course.

She will live 4 weeks in the bush learning all the basics a field guide needs:  taxonomy, grasses, trees, ecology, principles of veld management, amphibians and reptiles, arthropods, astronomy, weather and climate, cultural heritage, geology, freshwater fish and ecology, mammals, ethology (mammal behaviour) birds, guiding ethics, spoor identification and tracking, navigation and orientation, ecotourism, community based natural resource management and First Aid Level 1.

The course will end with theoretical and practical examen including  conducting a game drives.  An introductory rifle course is also included within the course, a first step  towards the SASSETA qualification (a legal requirement if you intend to work in a Big Five area).
