Still in Africa! continued

Friday, 26. November 2010

The outage did last for more than two hours. Luckily we had a torch, as well as candles and petroleum lamps (almost) ready. Nice atmosphere besides all the alarms going off in the neighborhood, but too little light to read or do other stuff. So we went to bed early, preventing me to wish a happy birthday to Lars-Olof at the first minute of his birthday.

This morning’s surprise – we got no running water.

Yet, we love it here.

Still in Africa !

Thursday, 25. November 2010

If there was nothing to remind us that we were in Africa, we just got remembered.

It didn’t happen for a long time, but now we got a black-out. I am wondering how long it will take until we get power. Meanwhile my laptop runs on battery.

But I have to stop the work I was doing, since I can’t read the notes I made, that are the base for the memo I was writing.

Beaujolais Nouveau

Thursday, 18. November 2010

It could have been in France, the Beaujolais Nouveau wine festival organized by the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

They booked whole Stanley44, and when you entered the place you did hear more French than English talk. Not only there was a very French looking lady singing chansons, but also the whole ambiance very French.
Sitting or standing under olive trees on Petanque play fields,
the Beaujolais Nouveau,
great cheeses – I have to say they were imported -,
and even the weather – a rather chilly and misty night felt pretty much a third Thursday of November night in France.

It was great fun.
