Now it is summer … finally

Sunday, 10. October 2010

Each night the last three days there was a storm arising. Each day a bit stronger and closer. Today we got the first rain at our place – but it wasn’t yet one of these awesome storms.

We are still waiting for, but now it is summer.

Working on the Future

Sunday, 10. October 2010

With one year contract time left we are intensively working on the future. Monique is becoming an expert on South African regulations on business start-up.

Today we were once more exploring the area for this purpose. We found two properties you couldn’t fail if you had funds to invest.

  • A well maintained, high open thatch on 8650 sqm green lawns and inviting gardens with a separate 110 sqm income producing thatched cottage and potential for additional dwelling. It is situated only 10 minutes away from (but not bothered by) the new Gautrain station halfway between Pretoria and JHB/the airport planned being operational next year.  While the area is declared agricultural today it will become a residential zone. So you can either keep it as a rural idyll in a booming environment, or later on sell it for property development.
  • A dream house in Melville, a Victorian double storey gem with Oregon floor, pressed ceilings, wooden window frames and door frames and a gorgeous garden. Additionally a stunning and permanently unobstructed view of the Melville Koppies (a nature reserve), unbelievable calmness, but next to urban life and easy access to freeways in all directions. Melville has been an artist and bohemian district, and is becoming more asked again these days. It is a great combination of calm residential streets with nice little restaurants around the corner, and buzzing main street with lots of clubs, bars, restaurants, fashion designer stores and much more. A district I’d love to live in.
